Plastic Mold Design Services

Getting the mold design right before a single piece of steel is machined is the single most cost-effective investment in any injection molding project. JBRplas provides comprehensive mold design services backed by engineering experience across thousands of tools — from simple single-cavity molds to complex multi-slide, hot-runner production tooling.

Every quote from JBRplas includes a free Design for Manufacturability (DFM) analysis of your part. This is not a checkbox — it is a detailed written report identifying potential issues with wall thickness, draft angles, undercuts, gate location, and surface finish before tooling begins.

What Our Mold Design Service Includes

Design for Manufacturability (DFM) Review

We analyze your 3D part file and 2D drawings and deliver a written DFM report covering:

  • Wall thickness uniformity and sink risk areas
  • Recommended draft angles per surface texture specification
  • Undercut analysis — eliminating unnecessary slides or lifters
  • Parting line and ejection strategy
  • Gate type and location options with trade-offs explained
  • Estimated shrinkage and dimensional impact by material

Mold Flow Simulation (Moldflow / Moldex3D)

Before any tooling is machined, we run injection simulation to predict:

  • Fill pattern and pressure distribution
  • Weld line position and strength
  • Warpage and dimensional deviation
  • Cooling channel effectiveness
  • Cycle time optimization

Results are delivered as a visual report. If simulation reveals issues, we redesign — at no additional charge.

Full 3D Tooling Design

Our mold design engineers produce complete tooling designs in SolidWorks and UG NX, including:

  • Core, cavity, and slider geometry
  • Runner and gate system (cold or hot runner)
  • Cooling circuit layout (conformal or conventional)
  • Ejection system (pins, blades, stripper plate)
  • Lifter and side action mechanisms
  • Mold base selection (LKM, Futaba, Hasco, DME standard components)

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you charge for DFM analysis? No. DFM review is included with every quote request. Submit your files and we will return a DFM report within 2–3 business days, at no cost and with no obligation.

Can I supply my own mold design? Yes. We accept customer-supplied tooling designs and can perform a manufacturing review before machining begins. We do recommend a design validation step regardless of the source.

What materials do you design for? We design molds for the full range of engineering and commodity thermoplastics, including ABS, PC, PC/ABS, PP, PA6/PA66, POM, PBT, PMMA, TPU, TPE, and glass-filled or flame-retardant grades.
